Rally & Broad: Season 4!

Good day, comrades!

We hope this finds you brutally well and in full fine fettle.

Rally & Broad have had a gorgeous summer of words, including some small naps and a glorious August.

We looked out to all things across the world at the Festival of Politics with pals A New International and Sophia Walker in the veh fancy surroundings of Holyrood; and then finished August in the glorious Spiegeltent at the Edinburgh International Book Festival with a roof-raising, tongue twisting medley of words and music exploring all things (mis)communication  for ‘The Interpretation Edition’ at Jura Unbound, in the damn fine company of R M Hubbert, Rebecca Green, Harry Giles, Bram E Gieben, Chrissy Barnacle and Jonathan Lamy.

And now, dearhearts, we have some exciting news….

WE’RE BAAAAAAAAAAAAACK! FOR ANOTHER SEASON!

C36A1695

This will be our FOURTH year of Rally & Broad, can ye believe it? And boysa, do we have a lot planned….

Cabarets!

In Glasgow, we’ll be continuing our monthly Sunday afternoon cabarets in Stereo, which we were rather fond of last Season and you folks seemed to enjoy too. It’ll be the same blend of top notch bands, the best of spoken word, a New Voices slot and all things literary…

In Edinburgh, our first show of the Season is in partnership with the Mental Health Foundation/ Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival, with all proceeds going to those stellar organisations. We’re delighted to partner up with them again, after a stonking gig in May this year. And it’s our first cabaret of the Season so get it in yer diaries – Friday 23rd October!

And from November, we’re getting a wee bit experimental…

For the last three years, Fair Edina has been kind as hell to us and it’s fair been the bedrock of everything we’ve done…So now it’s time to shake things up a bit!

Given the explosion of new spoken word nights in the city, and an increasing number of platforms for new voices in Edinburgh, we’re upping our game to make sure we do the thing we always wanted to do: give new acts “somewhere to go” beyond open mic, slam and short featured sets. Look forward to a completely different format each month: from collaborative work to new commissions, new pieces from great acts; maybe some a bit more spectacular, maybe something a bit more intimate. In short, we’ll be celebrating the myriad ways that words can be presented LIVE to you, you gorgeous creatures. And it’s going to be bloody good fun.

Gender-balanced bills and everyone paid industry-standard fees for their talent – all that is staying too, comrades!

Oh! AND, we’re ensuring that our Edina and our Weejie cabarets are always in the same weekend too: the penultimate Friday of the month in Edina, and the following Sunday in Glasgow.

The monthly cabarets are what we know we’re best known for, and they do form the main backbone of our plans til next July, but that’s not all…

Masterclasses with the Scottish Poetry Library

and Moniack Mhor!

After the success of our four masterclasses at the start of 2015, we’ve teamed up with the Scottish Poetry Library and Moniack Mhor to extend the opportunity to hone your practice, learn from the pros, and gain an intensive masterclass experience from excellent performers and poets. In January and March 2016, we’re going to be offering a whole-weekend intensive residency in poetry and performance at the Scottish Poetry Library in Edinburgh and in May 2016 we’ll be up in the beautiful surroundings of Inverness-shire at Moniack Mhor Writer’s Retreat, offering a residential in poetry and performance over a weekend there too. Watch this space.
